Jade has been known and valued for about 7.000 years. The ancient Egyptians conceived, jade is the blood of the dragon. Jade is considered as the first of "four great precious things" in China. It is because of the rare and precious that since the ancient times, jade has become the symbol of power, wealth, beauty and greatness. With the advantage in strength but are very flexible, gorgeous colorful and fanciful, jade became the ideal material for jewelry, tools, weapons in pre and early historic time.
In feudal dynasties, jade was used for carving on the crown, scepter, seal, sword, saddle ... and use a variety of pajamas, jewelry of kings and royalty. Not only rare, but jade was widely revered because of it’s mystery. The ancients believed that jade has super capabilities, such as: treating, helping for the immortality, keeping the dead body intact forever and bringing blessings ... Because of the rare and precious, so the jade artifacts were carefully crafted, fine art, showing the high ingenious of Vietnamese traditional artisans.
The National Museum of Vietnamese History where stored many rare and precious collections of artifact. In particular, including the collection of ancient jade, with the large number, diverse in form and color, dating from pre and early historic time until the early 20th century. “Vietnamese ancient jade” is the special temporary exhibition that is the first time showed to the visitors by the National Museum of Vietnamese History. This exhibition is a small part in the large collections of the Museum. Hopefully in the near future, when the new National Museum completed, these precious objects will be spent a worthy space for exhibition to serve the public.
